Ghost’s Tobias Forge has “idea” for “different” next record

Ghost‘s new album Impera is less than six months old, but frontman Tobias Forge is already looking toward a follow-up.

Speaking with Consequence, Forge reveals, “I have an album in my head right now that I think is going to be different from the one I just made.”

“Both [2018’s] Prequelle and Impera were ideas that I had since six, seven years back,” Forge explains. “They felt like two different things and the idea that I have for the next record is also a different thing from that. It’s just a way for me to compartmentalize the ideas of finding new ways to inspire me lyrically and conceptually.”

Impera, the fifth Ghost album, dropped in March. It gave the Swedish metallers their highest-charting album in the U.S., peaking at #2 on the Billboard 200, and spawned #1 Mainstream Rock Airplay singles in “Hunter’s Moon” and “Call Me Little Sunshine.”

Meanwhile, Ghost will launch a U.S. tour in support of Impera this Friday, August 26, in San Diego. The headlining outing also includes Mastodon and Spiritbox on the bill.
